You can see your project's milestones planning thanks to the Weekly and Monthly views. With your mouse, you can also drag the milestones ' dates of your project.
How to use Milestones in your projects
There are three levels to structure your project timeline in GroupCamp: Milestones, task lists and tasks. Here is an example showing you how the project hierarchy works in GroupCamp.
Milestone 1: Project launch
Milestone 2: Project specifications
Task list 1 (Task 1, Task 2, etc)
Task list 2 (Task 1, Task 2, Task 3, etc)
Milestone 3: Prototype
Task list 3 (Task 1, Task 2, etc)
Milestone XX: End of the project
With GroupCamp, you can link milestones to task lists. By default, the due dates of your tasks are going to be the same than the one you set for your linked milestone.
Note: You can also set up a different due date for each task you have.
When your task list is linked to your milestone, changing dates becomes faster and easier. When you change your milestone's due date:
All linked tasks' due dates are modified at once
Your colleagues' calendars are automatically synchronized with the new milestone's due date
When a milestone is late, all linked tasks are late too.
When a milestone is completed, the milestone's due date will no longer apply to linked tasks.
Link a milestone to a task list
In GroupCamp Project, you can create as many milestones as you wish. Use the description field and add attachments if you wish to provide additional information on deliverables associated with your milestones.
Create a new milestone
The Milestones application gives your the ability to:
Set a precise name for your milestones. For example "Client presentation", "Graphic charter", "Contract signing" , " Prototype test" or "Customer delivery".
Set a due date for your milestones. Each milestone's due date means the end of a key phase in your project.
Add a milestone's description field: Use the description field to add relevant information (for example: description or challenge of the milestone)
Add milestone's deliverables: Indicate milestone delieverables by adding a file as attachment.
Assign a person responsible for the milestone: If a project member is responsible for the milestone's completion, assign him/her as the milestone's owner.
Add followers to the milestone, they will be notified whenever there are updates.
Link milestones to task lists
A milestone can be linked to one or several task lists (or none).
A task list can only be linked to one milestone (or none).
1) Link a milestone to a task list thanks to the task list edit form
2) Link task lists to a milestone directly in the milestone's Information panel
Note: To dissociate a task list, use the Edit button next to it
The project dashboard (Overview application) will allow you to see all late milestones sorted by date. The schedule in the project overview will also allow you to see all your upcoming milestones in the project.
Set up the Milestones application
The settings of this application gives you the ability to define privileges for users and enable the use of the iCalendar feed to sync your milestones with your calendar.
Note : If you do not need the Milestones application, you can disable it. If you do so, the Milestones application will not show up in your project.
Synchronize all project milestones with iCalendar
The iCalendar standard format is supported by most office calendars. By adding the iCalendar feed for a project in an office calendar, project managers are reminded of all key deadlines in their projects.
You can work with shared calendars in the following ways:
Set up one shared online calendar in which all milestones feeds are added
Use a personal calendar in which you can choose to add only your milestones
You can have different shared online calendars, for instance if you are a Gmail or a G Suite user, you can define one shared Google Calendar per client.
View all milestones across your projects
The Milestones app from the Home menu allows users to see their milestones across their projects.
Private milestones allow you to manage internal milestones and key internal due dates without your guests noticing it.
You can also invite clients in your shared project and set the whole Milestones application as private. If you do so, only colleagues will see the Milestones application in your project. Your clients will not see the Milestones application.
Apps in GroupCamp projects has the private object feature.
