What are the different ways of posting messages in GroupCamp
This FAQ explains the different ways to post messages in GroupCamp. Posts are items that are shared with a Project feed and with colleagues or guests.
- Posting messages in a project in Discussions app's Project feed.
- Posting messages in a project on a topic with the Discussions app.
- Posting messages to colleagues (this is a direct message given only to followers and not shared in any feeds). Guests can't participate in direct messages.
From a post's Information panel (accessible by pressing 'i' on your keyboard or by clicking the post's (i) button) go to the tab: Projects where this post is shared.
- The Project feed checkbox lets you add or remove the post from the feed.
- The Discussions checkbox lets you place the post within one of the topics of the Discussions app.
- Clicking 'x' deletes the post from all project feeds.
Sharing a post with a project makes it visible in the post's feed to all project members.
Post followers are notified when it's commented on or updated.
Click on the Followers tab in a post's Information panel.
- Clicking '+' opens the add followers window.
- The Inbox icon shows whether you are following the post.
If the icon is empty, you are not a follower. If it is filled in you are.
Click on the icon to start or stop following the post.
- Clicking 'x' to the right of followers removes them from the list.
All of the colleagues in your account can be added as followers to posts.
When colleagues comment on a post, they can use the @ to mention other colleagues or colleague teams. These colleagues will be automatically subscribed to the post which will also appear in their Inbox applications.
Project feed lets you add members who will automatically be added as followers to each new post. See this FAQ to learn more: How to automatically follow new created items of a project.
Followers will be notified by email, online or by Push notification depending on their settings in their iOS or Android GroupCamp apps.
The following window can be accessed with the + menu in GroupCamp's main top barr - or - by pressing 'a' then 'm' on your keyboard - or - with the Post a message icon in a project.
Project and Colleagues tabs
Post your message to a project or to colleagues. Guests don't have access to the Colleagues tab.
The project selector lists projects that you are a member of and where the Discussions app is enabled.
The number of members automatically following new posts is shown (in the above example there are 6).
Add specific guests or colleagues as followers to your message.
The post will be added to their Inbox application and member will be notified depending of their notification preferences.
Enter a subject to the post.
Drag files into the text body area
Enter a text body (not mandatory).
Insert an image, a video or a link
You can describe your post with an online video, a link to a web page, or an image.
Attach a file
Attach files to share with followers from your computer or your GroupCamp account.
Sort the post in one of the topics of the Discussions application.
The most recent posts are placed at the top of the feed list. This also applies to the most recently commented on or updated posts. This means a post that has not been recently commented on but is nevertheless important, may drop to a lower position in the list and not seen as much. However, you can sort important posts in terms of topic using the Discussions app to give them more visibility to your project members.
You can post on items such as tasks, milestones, task lists, Wiki pages, etc. to highlight areas in need and ask a helping hand from other colleagues.
With a simple click, post followers can consult the Information panel of a posted item to update or comment on it.
You can select items with your mouse and keyboard in applications or activity feeds to add them to a message (Ctrl + Click, Shift + Click, etc.).
The selected items have now been added to the Post selected items window.
When followers open a message in their Inbox, email, project feed, or iOS/Android apps, they can open the item's Information panel with one click to see it, update it, or comment on it.
The Post a discussion window lets users employ GroupCamp's rich text editor to create messages with formatting, images, video and files, etc. all incorporated within the message.
Go to a topic in the Discussions app and click on the Create button.
Posts are items like any other and can be reposted. This means you can open up a new comment thread for an existing post and share its content and comments with other colleagues.
Project feed has its own email address that allows you to post messages by sending it an email. This lets you share messages and files without connecting to your GroupCamp account.
When you attach files to a post, their access rights are by default open to non-member project colleagues. These access rights can be changed in the Files project settings (Read only or Read only + Comments).
Files selected from your computer are added to the Shared with the project folder in the Files application.
