How to use Estimated time on tasks?
This FAQ details the Estimated time feature used in the Tasks application of a GroupCamp project.
Estimated time allows you to assess the length of a project. During a project's execution, every time a task is completed or every time the completion percentage of a task increases, remaining estimated time are calculated and displayed in the Tasks application of a project. Estimated time can be compared with recorded time spent on tasks so that you can evaluate the difference between your estimation and the actual time spent to accomplish a project.
In the article, you will learn how to:
- Set up estimated time
- Set Time measuring unit (Hours or Days)
- Estimated time entry on a task
- Import estimated time from an Excel spreadsheet
- Display remaining estimated time to do on tasks
- See remaining estimated time sum for task list
- Estimated time indicators displayed in the Overview application
- Estimated time displayed in the Gantt view
You can enable this feature in the Tasks application, please read this article: How to set up the Tasks application?
Access to time spent indicators are set up in the Overview application, please read this article: How to set up the Overview application?
Estimated time can be entered in hours or days. By default, time measuring unit is the same across all projects. You can set up time measuring unit in the Tasks and Timelog applications located in the Admin panel of your GroupCamp account.
When recording estimated time, the information is recorded in two different units (days and hours). You can switch from days to hours by going in the Admin panel, then click on the Regional options icon. Time measuring unit can be set for all projects or customized for each project in the Group settings window.

Use the Excel spreadsheet Tasks import, read this FAQ: How to import or export tasks with Excel
When the task is not started yet, the estimated time entry is displayed.
When the task is in the process, remaining estimated time is displayed (10h x 30% = 7h)
When the task is completed (100%), the estimated time entry is greyed out.
Note: On a given task, comparing remaining estimated time with Time spent makes no sense. The comparison is valid only once the task is fully completed.
Remaining estimated time is also displayed when using the filter search on users, tags etc...
The Gantt view located in the Tasks application of a project allows you to display estimated time per task list: total, completed and remaining estimated time.
When time spent are used in the project, you can compare estimated time of completed or advanced tasks with real time spent on tasks.
Filters and reports take estimated time into account. The sum displayed can be partial, in this case the "+" symbol is displayed. To get the full sum, please unfold all task lists.
The Reports application displays estimated time for each selected project (identical to the Overview application in a project).
