How to use recurring tasks in your projects
This GroupCamp FAQ explains how to use recurring tasks in your projects.
Recurring tasks in GroupCamp are based on a generator of tasks. The first step consists in defining a periodicity with which the generator will create tasks and the number of initial tasks which should be created. This mecanism allows you to have standard tasks produced by the generator which can then be updated individually.
You can also access all recurring tasks in a project and across all projects .
You can be notified when new tasks are generated periodically.
To create a recurring tasks, go the Tasks application in a project. Click on the Create button, then on Recurring tasks.
You then access the list of recurring tasks for the project and all other projects within the account, you can also use the status filter to choose only active or completed recurring tasks (recurring tasks which are past the end date of the defined perod):
Click on New recurring tasks.
The form to create recurring tasks presents various periodicity (the screenshot below shows the weekly option):
Available periodicity options include: Daily, Daily (Working business days), Weekly, Monthly.
Once the priodicity is chosen, you can then configure the other parameters of the generator:
- the starting date of the recurring tasks (by default, the recurrence starts on the next day),
- the ending date (the last date on which tasks should be generated). If no end date is set, tasks will be generated indefinitely.
- the number of tasks to be created initially (see more on this below).
Describe the task, the task list in which it should be generated (the task list may be private), the estimated time, the reminder and the followers to be added.
Click on Ok. The number of initial tasks to be generated will be created automatically.
The individual tasks created have the same properties as any other tasks once they have been generated. They are displayed in the project schedule and synced with calendars.
Note: If you edit or delete the generator of recurring tasks, the tasks which are already generated will not be updated or deleted.
Within a project, recurring tasks are presented as such:
By clicking on the recurrence icon you will be directed to the recurring tasks generator.
Access to the generators of recurring tasks, updating and deleting recurring task generators can be restricted to specific users based on the privilege of the feature. Members who are not granted access can only see the recurring tasks but cannot access the generator. Please read this FAQ : How to set up the Tasks application.
