Many of you have been asking how we intended to support time zones within Project. It's now time (it's actually 11:00 GMT+1:00H in Paris) to give you a little heads up on our plans.
Getting started with a project time zone
Currently all projects are in the Paris time zone. Not ideal if your project is in the US. So the first sep is to allow administrators to define a project time zone for each project.
Addressing User time zones
You will come across project members in the Project Overview app and we want to allow for a display of each user time zone so every member knows where each project member is based. Displaying the offset in different user time zones will also help.
Our Discussions is one of the main used applications with Customers using GroupCamp for online projects to collect new ideas and foster innovation. We are happy to announce a new version of the application to improve collaboration with GroupCamp Project.
As from today discussions gets a new rich editor. The follower and comment system now works the same way as for the Tasks app.
The form for adding a new task has a new design. You can now add members of your project as followers of a task and add a comment along the way before submitting your task.
Adding a first comment when creating a task is a feature requested by many of our customers. A typical use case is the ability to describe a task and assign it to someone, then use the comment field to direct a message to followers of the task. The screenshot below shows a good example of such a case.
Our journey into Google Apps™ starts now and will focus on email integration. As soon as we support the use of your Google Apps™ ID to sign up for a GroupCamp account, we will be focusing our efforts on email contextual widgets. The objective is to allow easier item creation directly from your email.
If you are a Google Apps™ user and would like to share examples of how to use GroupCamp with your email in Google Apps™ please use the online contact form to share your thoughts.
We are now actively working on GroupCamp Mobile. Our objective is to find the right usage of the different project packs for a smartphone. This means narrowing pour feature set to the actual required usage when our users are on the go.
Many of you have requested a simpler way to enable features in application settings. Enabling a feature often requires the feature to be enabled in the settings page then in the application itself.
Now that we have more feedback from our users on what our default settings should be, we have redesigned the settings page with many features already enabled in topics (in the Discussions app) and tasks lists so you don’t have to enable them in the app.
A quick reminder of when and how to use application settings for a project
We announced mid September that email notifications from the Files app were sent out in HTML format. As planned, we are now proud to announce that all email notifications from GroupCamp are sent out in both text and in HTML format.
You will find that more elegant emails brings more clarity and hence more usability to our emails.
If some of you have mailer software for which our emails are not optimized please send an email to the support team.
Our feedback from existing customers confirms that alongside Project for teamwork, there is still a lack of simple on-demand service for managing contacts from outside the company. We are talking here about CRM but more broadly speaking this implies managing any relationship with outside companies, customers, suppliers or partners. Our new pack would be a simple contact management system designed to provide a common view of all communications exchanged with another company. To achieve this, we would leverage the work with have already done on email integration to make sure all your outgoing emails to a customer are linked to a given customer.
